A Pilgrim's Guide to Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the beating heart of Varanasi and one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. For millions of pilgrims, a visit here is the very reason to come to Kashi. Staying just a 5-minute walk away at Shree Aksharam Guest House means you can reach the temple for the early-morning Mangala Aarti without the rush.

Darshan timings

The temple is open from around 3:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with special aartis through the day. The Mangala Aarti at dawn is the most serene; the Sapta Rishi Aarti in the evening is the most atmospheric. Timings can change on festival days, so confirm at the front desk before you head out.

What to carry (and what to leave behind)

Mobile phones, cameras, leather items and large bags are not allowed inside the inner sanctum. There are paid lockers near the gates, but the simplest option is to leave valuables in your room safe and walk over with just your offerings. Dress modestly — covered shoulders and knees are appreciated.

Skip-the-queue tips

Weekday mornings are far quieter than weekends and Mondays (Shiva's day). If you'd like a smoother experience, ask us about the Sugam Darshan and Aarti booking options — we can point you to the official counters and the best times to go.

After darshan, wander down to the Ganges through the narrow lanes, grab a hot kachori-sabzi breakfast, and watch Kashi wake up around you.
